NBA insider Marc Stein revealed that the Nuggets brought in Joerger as an assistant because they wanted to add a coach with previous NBA head coaching experience to David Adelman's staff.
"As it was explained to me, the directive came from management. I think that speaks for itself," Stein stated.
"I think it was late June when I first reported on Joerger. I don't remember exactly when it was, but Dave Joerger was a name I heard immediately."
He confirmed there was interest from the EuroLeague.
It was quite interesting because Paris, one of the clubs with the largest budget in European basketball, wanted Dave Joerger to be their head coach. Of course, the general manager of Paris is David Kahn... He's the main decision-maker for that club. Paris was actively trying to persuade Dave Joerger to leave the NBA and become their head coach, and then the opportunity with the Nuggets arose.
Joerger brings a wealth of coaching experience to Denver, having previously served as head coach for the Memphis Grizzlies (2013-2016) and the Sacramento Kings (2016-2019).
