Timothy Castagne provided an assist, but it wasn't enough to help Belgium overcome Spain in the 2026 World Cup quarterfinals. Despite the loss, the experienced defender praised the team's effort.
“Clearly, we weren't good enough. Our opponents were superior. We managed to score and equalize, but our second-half performance wasn't what it needed to be. Perhaps we defended adequately, but we had to be much better on the ball. Spain is a top-tier team, but we were determined to eliminate them," Castagne commented.
“We didn't create many chances, nor did we have much possession. I always prefer to look at ourselves rather than comment on the opposing team. They were strong, but we could have performed better," the Belgian admitted.
“You're never satisfied when you're knocked out, but it was a good tournament overall. Today, we certainly could have done more, and it's natural to have regrets," Castagne added.
