Carlos Sainz has officially committed his future to Williams, signing a new multi-year Formula 1 deal. This announcement means that within two days, the British team has confirmed both of its current drivers will remain, as Alex Albon also extended his contract until at least the end of 2027.
Reports emerged over the weekend suggesting Sainz was on the verge of agreeing to an extension of his current contract, with improved terms reflecting his standing within the team and securing his future. While there had been speculation linking the Spaniard to Audi or Alpine, these rumors proved unfounded.
It has now been confirmed that Sainz has finalized the terms of his new contract and will stay with Williams as the team heads into its 50th anniversary season in 2027.
On Tuesday, it was announced that his teammate Alex Albon had also agreed to a new deal, meaning the pair will form Williams' driver lineup for a third consecutive season next year.
Since joining Williams from Ferrari at the start of the 2025 season, Sainz has secured two podium finishes – in Azerbaijan and Qatar. These marked the team's first podiums since Lance Stroll's in 2017, excluding George Russell's second-place finish at the chaotic 2021 Belgian Grand Prix. He also finished third in the Sprint race at the United States Grand Prix.
