Hundreds mourn as Brazil legend is laid to rest in Rio

Alberto who led Brazil to win the 1970 World Cupdied on Tuesday, October 25after suffering a heart attack.

According to local reports, Alberto was taken to the Hospital Rio Mar after falling ill and later suffered the fatal cardiac arrest.

The former right-back who died at the age of 72 was laid to rest at the Iraja cemetery.

The funeral was attended by several football personalities including another Brazilian FIFA World Cup winning captain, Cafu.

Albertoscored a goal in the final of the 1970 FIFA World Cup against Italy that is considered to be one of the greatest in the history of the tournament.

Playing as a right-back, Alberto was capped 53 times by Brazil before retiring from international football in 1978 following a battle against persistent knee problems.

He also won titles with Fluminense and Santos.

Before his death, Alberto worked as a commentator for Sportv in Brazil. His last appearance on television was on Sunday, October, 23.

The defender also played for Flamengo and New York Cosmos.
