The highly anticipated boxing showdown between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Christian Mbilli in Riyadh remains on schedule for Saturday, October 31, despite the US State Department ordering the evacuation of non-emergency embassy personnel and their families from Saudi Arabia.

State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott confirmed the directive: "The US Department of State ordered the departure of non-emergency US government employees and family members in Saudi Arabia." He added that "Iran-backed Houthis are increasingly conducting hostile actions against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports and other critical infrastructure, resulting in civilian casualties and significant travel disruptions."

Despite the tense diplomatic backdrop, Saudi officials maintain that the card, broadcast on streaming platform DAZ, will proceed as planned at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. In the main event, four-division world champion Alvarez looks to reclaim the World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight title currently held by Mbilli.

Tensions in the region escalated sharply following a Yemeni Houthi strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which killed at least 12 people and injured more than 300. The incident prompted Washington to issue a Level 3 ("Reconsider Travel") advisory for most of Saudi Arabia, along with a top-tier Level 4 ("Do Not Travel") warning for areas along the border with Yemen.

Following the airport strike, the rebels expanded their military campaign with drone and ballistic missile attacks across Saudi Arabia and Yemen, targeting oil facilities, regional airports, and military installations. According to CNN, the State Department warned US citizens of potential risks of further attacks on transport hubs and widespread travel disruption.

Last week, General Entertainment Authority chairman Turki Alalshikh announced that the fight will take place "no matter what." He also published the full fight-week schedule: official fighter arrivals on Wednesday (October 28), the pre-fight press conference on Thursday (October 29), the weigh-in on Friday (October 30), and fight night on Saturday, with ring walks expected around 9:00 PM local time in Riyadh.
