Bryce Mitchell relentlessly pursued a submission until the very end of his bout.
During Saturday's UFC Vegas 118 fight night, Mitchell secured his second bantamweight victory in the Octagon, submitting 21-year-old prospect Santiago Luna in the final seconds of their fight.
Luna stepped in to face Bryce Mitchell on just nine days' notice, replacing Victor Henry, who was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury. The undefeated Mexican fighter proved to be a worthy opponent for Mitchell but ultimately succumbed to his more experienced adversary. Luna wasn't afraid to test his grappling against Mitchell, but this ultimately contributed to his downfall as Mitchell consistently fought for superior positions throughout the bout.
As Mitchell once again gained a dominant position late in the third round, he secured an arm-triangle choke submission just eight seconds before the final horn. Following the fight, Mitchell praised Luna for accepting the bout and giving him the opportunity to compete on Saturday night.
Mitchell (19-3) previously competed at featherweight but is now finding success in the 135-pound division, improving his overall UFC record to 10-3 with this victory. Luna (8-1), on the other hand, suffered his first loss in nine professional fights.
