Broadcasters Rule Out Seeking Compensation Over Man City Financial Case

Broadcasters who have poured billions of pounds into Premier League television rights have no intention of seeking compensation following the outcome of the case against Manchester City. Despite City being found guilty of the vast majority of their alleged financial rule breaches, television companies are not expected to demand any partial refunds on their existing deals.

According to the Daily Mail, such a move is deemed "highly unlikely." Although broadcasters have previously discussed the possibility of seeking discounts on future rights packages, that scenario also appears improbable at present. Market forces are expected to determine the value of the next cycle of TV contracts, with a significant decline in value likely only if City's potential punishment triggers a massive drop in subscriber numbers.

Meanwhile, the club's legal saga rumbles on. The full written reasons from the independent commission, whose hearing concluded in December 2024, have yet to be published. Manchester City are widely expected to appeal, having 14 days to do so, with any appeal set to be heard by a separate panel. Club CEO Ferran Soriano has already warned executives from other European clubs that the resolution remains a long way off, stating: "It took eight years to get here and it will take a long time yet."
