After finding himself on the wrong end of one of the season's most viral NBA highlights—dropping to the floor courtesy of a Stephen Curry crossover—Luka Doncic dusted himself off and responded in historic fashion. The Slovenian superstar guided the Los Angeles Lakers to a 131-125 victory over the Toronto Raptors, posting an unprecedented stat line in a dazzling 45-point performance.
In a masterclass for the ages, Doncic became the first player in NBA history to record at least 15 rebounds, five assists, five steals, and five three-pointers in a single game. The point guard wrapped up the night with 45 points, a season-high 15 rebounds (all defensive), six assists, five steals, and eight converted three-pointers.
The clinic began in the opening half, where he poured in 24 points by the break and set another record: becoming the first player ever to tally at least 20 points, five rebounds, five steals, and five triples in a single half. Following the recent defeat against the Warriors, the Slovenian had vowed to bounce back: "I have to be better; we win together, and we lose together."
Following the game, Doncic reflected on his defensive progress: "Obviously, I'm not the best defender in the NBA, but I think I really took a step forward this year. People are going to say whatever they want about me... But I know, and my team knows, that I'm better this year."
As for the flow of the game, Los Angeles built a commanding lead across the first three quarters (104-82) and managed to hold off a furious fourth-quarter comeback attempt by Toronto (27-43). In support of Doncic, Austin Reaves tallied 19 points, while Walker Kessler added a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Meanwhile, the Canadian franchise, without Kawhi Leonard for the fourth consecutive outing, were led by Scottie Barnes (29 points) and RJ Barrett (22 points).
