Mercedes driver George Russell has also received a new power unit at Monza, incurring a grid penalty that will see him start from the back. Earlier this month, it was revealed that championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli would also be using a new power unit in Italy, guaranteeing him a back-of-the-grid start.

However, this has not yet been confirmed by Mercedes and remains only a possibility for now.
"We haven't decided on George's penalty yet, but this situation applies to both our drivers," explained Deputy Team Principal Bradley Lord. "George retired in Canada, Kimi in Barcelona, and in Hungary, George's qualifying session ended prematurely."
"We need to manage our engine resources so that we have the freshest and most efficient power units available for the end of the season. We are constantly balancing the risk of using a higher-mileage engine against the potential loss of points from a penalty and starting further back on the grid."
