For Andrea Kimi Antonelli's race engineer, Peter Bonnington—widely known simply as "Bono"—the Italian's Formula 1 world championship triumph marks the eighth title of his illustrious career.
The British engineer's first taste of championship glory came in 2009 working with Jenson Button at Brawn GP, which was subsequently rebranded as Mercedes ahead of the 2010 season. Between 2010 and 2012, Bono worked alongside seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, a partnership that yielded a solitary podium finish in Valencia in 2012.
Following Schumacher's second retirement from Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton arrived at Mercedes, with the pair going on to forge the most successful driver-engineer partnership in the sport's history. Across 12 seasons between 2013 and 2024, they claimed a remarkable 84 victories and six world titles together.
Bono opted against following Hamilton to Ferrari, remaining with Mercedes to guide Antonelli through the beginning of his F1 journey. While the Italian's rookie 2025 campaign was filled with challenges, his sophomore season proved a resounding triumph, wrapping up the Drivers' Championship a full four rounds before the end of the year—and making Bono an eight-time Formula 1 world champion in the process.
