Boko Haram militants are said to have attacked Mubi in Adamawa State on Wednesday, October 29, causing a whole battalion of soldiers to flee the area.
The terrorists invaded the town and went on a rampage looting the army barracks, freeing prisoners from jail and causing residents to run for their lives, AP reports.
Ahmad Garba, a resident of the town, which is home to Chief of defense staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, said:
"We are scampering for our lives," "They attacked the military barracks, police stations and the prison. As I am talking with you now, thousands of people have deserted Mubi and neighboring towns, some heading toward Cameroon republic as others headed"
The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has reportedly confirmed the attack and the report of the fleeing soldiers but it said that the invasion was carried out by “insignificant” Boko Haram militants and that investigations into the incident were underway.
Nigeria announced on October 17 that it had entered into a ceasefire agreement with the sect but attacks are still being carried out on communities in the troubled North-East.
