Aircraft manufacturing company introduces self-cleaning toilets
Airport toilets have previously been identified as one of the dirtiest spots on a plane and airplane manufacturer, Boeing has come out with an all-new self-cleaning toilet that will see passengers have minimal contact with surfaces.
According to Mashable, the lavatory would use ultraviolet (UV) light to clean all the surfaces and there will be no hand sanitizer or travel wipes required.
Speaking in a statement, Jeanne Yu, Boeing Commercial Airplanes Director of Environmental Performance said the group is looking "to alleviate the anxiety we all face when using a restroom that gets a workout during a flight."
Yu also added that the sanitizing even helps eliminate odor.
The UV light can kill 99.99% of germs, and would be active between bathroom uses.
The prototype bathroom incorporates some technology that Boeing has already introduced on aircraft, like a hands-free faucet and soap dispenser.
The company is also looking at developing a hands-free door latch and a floor vacuum.
