Arsenal have failed in their appeal against Max Dowman's red card following their surprise EFL Cup last-16 exit at the hands of League Two side Fleetwood Town.

The 16-year-old was sent off in the 85th minute for kicking out at Harrison Neal. Following a 1-1 draw, Arsenal were knocked out in the penalty shootout.

Dowman was handed a three-match ban by the disciplinary panel. The Gunners will now be without the teenager for Sunday's high-stakes Premier League clash at Liverpool, AFP reported.
