Bernardo Silva took to social media to reflect on Portugal's elimination from the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The "Navigators" reached the Round of 16 but couldn't advance further, conceding a goal in stoppage time against Spain, ultimately losing 0-1.
The midfielder, who is among the new signings for José Mourinho's Real Madrid next season, expressed his disappointment and sorrow on his social media profiles.
"A disappointing World Cup and immense sadness that we finished much earlier than anyone imagined. It has always been, and will always be, a huge source of pride to represent our national team. Thank you to all Portuguese for your support and the hope you placed in us," Bernardo Silva wrote.
Bernardo Silva started the 2026 World Cup as a starter against DR Congo, then came on as a substitute against Uzbekistan. He remained on the bench for the match against Colombia, subsequently appearing as a substitute against Croatia and Spain. The game against the Spanish was Portugal's last in the tournament, ending their participation in the Round of 16.
