Barcelona and Celta Vigo Lineups

Barcelona and Celta Vigo are set to clash in a midweek fixture for the 33rd round of Spain's La Liga.

The Catalan giants are chasing a crucial victory to maintain their comfortable nine-point lead over rivals Real Madrid, a gap they held at the start of the round. Yesterday, the "Royals" secured a 2-1 home win against Alaves, temporarily narrowing the deficit to six points for 24 hours. A league triumph is imperative for Hansi Flick's squad, as La Liga remains Barcelona's last opportunity for a significant trophy in 2026, following their exits from both the Copa del Rey and the Champions League at the hands of Atletico Madrid. While the Spanish Super Cup was claimed at the beginning of the year, it's certainly not a trophy that the "Blaugrana" management would consider sufficient.

Last week, Celta Vigo also bid farewell to European club competitions for the season after another defeat to Freiburg in the Europa League. Now, the team from Vigo faces an incredibly important final seven La Liga matches, which will determine their ambitions for the next season. Currently, they trail fifth-placed Betis by five points, who also have a game in hand. However, only a two-point cushion separates them from eighth-placed Getafe. If Getafe secures sixth place, Celta will miss out on European football next year. Conversely, if Celta finishes seventh and Real Sociedad finishes sixth, then Celta will indeed have a European campaign in the 2026/2027 season. This is because the "Basques" earned a spot in continental tournaments by triumphing in the Copa del Rey last weekend.

The match between Barcelona and Celta Vigo kicks off at 10:30 PM Bulgarian time, and Sportal.bg invites you to follow the live action.
