The 2017 Badagry Diaspora Festival aims to reconnect Africans to their roots to familiarise themselves with their culture.

The theme of the festival is Focusing on Diaspora Door of Return Ceremony.

The event, which is being organised by African Renaissance Foundation (AFR) urges Afro-Americans and Africans in the diaspora to reconnect with their roots.

During a press conference, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa said that the festival will allow Africans in the diaspora reunite with their culture.

The minister also said that the festival would provide the organisers and other stakeholders the opportunity to discuss pertinent issues as regards to African culture and its revival.

She said: "We are also organizing an international symposium, which will expose the unique cultures of Africans to the world. We are partnering with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we are doing everything that is possible to make it a huge success."

The President of ARF, the organisers, Babatunde Mesewaku, said that this event would be the first convergence of Africans in Badagry to celebrate African culture.

According to him, the event would provide an avenue for cultural integration, even more so because of Badagry's historical significance.
