Antoine Griezmann has officially signed his contract with Orlando City. The deal is for two years with an option for an additional 12 months. He is set to join his new team in July. The American club had initially hoped to secure his services this month, but Griezmann opted to finish the season with Atlético Madrid, aiming to win the Copa del Rey and advance as far as possible with the "Rojiblancos" in the Champions League.
Following the derby against Real Madrid, he received permission from Atlético to travel to Florida and finalize his transfer. Both clubs have now confirmed that he has signed the contract.
Griezmann will wear his favored No. 7 jersey, and according to unconfirmed reports, he is expected to earn around 10 million euros annually. This would make him the second-highest-paid player in MLS, trailing only Lionel Messi.
Griezmann released a special statement bidding farewell to Atlético fans.
"It's not easy to put my feelings into words, because this club is my home, and you are my family. It has been an incredible journey, filled with unforgettable matches, goals, joys, and a passion that only those who truly feel Atlético can understand. But let's leave the future aside for now, because I'm not leaving just yet. I still have a few months left in this jersey, months in which I will give everything to lift the Copa del Rey and go as far as possible in the Champions League. We still have many opportunities to be happy. I want every minute I have left here to be a tribute to this emblem. We will do it together, as always. My present is still red and white until my last moment this season. And my heart will forever be so," Griezmann stated.
Regarding his new club, the Frenchman commented:
"I am very excited to begin the next chapter of my career with Orlando City. From my very first conversations with the club, I felt a strong ambition and a clear vision for the future, and that truly resonated with me. I can't wait to make Orlando my new home, meet the fans, feel the energy of Inter&Co Stadium, and give my all to help the team achieve great things."
Griezmann, currently 35 years old, spent 10 seasons at Atlético Madrid across two spells, becoming the club's all-time leading scorer with 211 goals. During his time, he won the Europa League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Spanish Super Cup.
His contract with Atlético was set to expire in June 2027, but the club will release him to Orlando City on a free transfer.
