Atletico Madrid has temporarily claimed the top spot in Spain's La Liga after securing a 3-1 away victory over Sevilla in their third-round fixture. The capital club bounced back to winning ways following a draw with Villarreal in the previous round, while the Andalusians suffered their first defeat of the campaign, having previously maintained a perfect record.

Atletico effectively sealed the win before halftime, netting three unanswered goals. Alex Baena opened the scoring in the 4th minute, followed by Ademola Lookman doubling the lead in the 26th. Baena then struck again in the 33rd minute. After the break, Lookman also appeared to grab a second goal, but it was disallowed after a VAR review.

Sevilla's consolation goal came midway through the second half. Miguel Angel Sierra found the net in the 67th minute, but the hosts lacked the energy for a comeback and ultimately accepted the loss.

In the next round, Atletico Madrid will travel to face Athletic Bilbao on September 5th (Saturday) at 5:15 PM Bulgarian time. A day later, on September 6th (Sunday), Sevilla will visit Espanyol at 10:00 PM Bulgarian time.
