Lando Norris was far from pleased with the incident caused by Franco Colapinto during the first restart of yesterday's Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The Argentine misjudged his braking for the first corner of the Baku street circuit, colliding with his Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly and Norris. All three drivers retired from the race at that point. After the checkered flag, Norris sharply criticized Colapinto, even calling for the Argentine to receive a one-race ban.
Naturally, the world champion's comments resonated in Argentina, with the South American country's Foreign Minister, Pablo Quirno, joining the discussion. In a post on X, Quirno recalled the collision between Norris and his teammate Oscar Piastri in Canada last year, writing: "Yes, Lando Norris called for a penalty for a driver who crashed into Oscar Piastri in Montreal 2025. Oh no... wait."
This is another example of how fiercely Argentina defends its driver, often attacking his rivals. It's no coincidence that during the Baku weekend, Alpine boss Flavio Briatore warned that he would ban Colapinto from speaking to Argentine media if they didn't improve their behavior.
