Liverpool's Jeremie Frimpong will miss today's UEFA Nations League clash between the Netherlands and Serbia. The 25-year-old defender is the only player from the 'Oranje' squad not included in new coach Xavi Hernandez's 23-man roster for the Group 1, League A encounter in Belgrade. Frimpong was an unused substitute in the Spaniard's debut match in charge, a 1-1 draw against Germany on Thursday. Evidently, he failed to impress the coach enough to retain his spot, as he does not feature in UEFA's official squad list for the upcoming game.
Frimpong's place in the squad has been taken by Arsenal right-back Jurrien Timber, who missed the match against the German national team due to injury.
The Liverpool player has struggled to maintain consistent form at his club, featuring in only three of five Premier League matches this season. His exclusion from the national squad is a setback, but he still has time to improve his international prospects during this break, with upcoming matches against Greece and another fixture against Serbia.
Since making his debut for the Netherlands in 2023, Frimpong has accumulated 15 caps for his country. However, he was overlooked by Ronald Koeman for this summer's World Cup after an unconvincing first season at Liverpool.
At Anfield, Frimpong is currently battling for the starting right-back position with Ronald Araujo, an experienced loanee who captained Barcelona.
