Memphis Grizzlies center Isaiah Stewart will miss the start of the NBA regular season due to a left ankle injury, Reuters reports.
The team officially announced that the 25-year-old will be re-evaluated in two weeks. With Memphis opening the season at home against the Utah Jazz on October 21, Stewart has been ruled out for the opener. Depending on his recovery, however, he could potentially return for their second game—a road matchup against the Golden State Warriors on October 23.
Stewart sustained the injury during the first quarter of Monday's preseason opener against the Atlanta Hawks.
Memphis acquired Stewart and the remainder of his four-year, $60 million contract in a trade with the Detroit Pistons. He carries a $15 million salary for the current season and a $15 million option for the 2027–28 campaign.
Last season, the center averaged 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, a career-high 1.6 blocks, and 22.7 minutes per game across 58 appearances (13 starts).
