Tottenham continues to grapple with a challenging start to the new season. After five Premier League rounds, they remain winless, sitting at the bottom of the table with just two points and a mere two goals scored. The 'Spurs' finished 17th in the previous two seasons, and despite significant summer recruitment and nearly £400 million spent, the anticipated improvement under Roberto De Zerbi has yet to materialize in their results. The recent 2-3 defeat to Aston Villa over the weekend has only intensified concerns surrounding the team.
Amidst this backdrop, new signing Andy Robertson believes some of the 'Spurs' players haven't yet shaken off the struggles of last season. “They’ve had a couple of really tough seasons in terms of league position. They had to go into the market and spend a lot of money, but I believe Tottenham is now embarking on a journey. I don’t know how far it can go, nobody does, but I see determination in this group. I think last season hurt them a lot. And maybe we are still guilty of carrying the weight of last season on our shoulders,” stated the Scottish international.
The defender, who joined Tottenham on a free transfer from Liverpool, urged the team to put the past behind them and focus on the present. “We need to forget. We need to try now to get Tottenham back to where we believe they belong. And the fans are still carrying that burden, which is completely understandable. They’ve been through such a difficult period,” Robertson added.
Despite the poor start, he doesn't believe the situation is beyond repair, seeing potential within De Zerbi's squad. “We need that first win, and once we get it, I think we’ll have a really good season. We need a bit of luck, and we need to forget a bit more about the past and look forward. I believe that as the season progresses, we will get better,” Robertson concluded.
