After securing a second-place finish at Sepang, the Spaniard confirmed he would sit out the upcoming round in Qatar to undergo the necessary medical procedures. Marquez plans to return to action in time for the Portuguese Grand Prix in mid-November.

The Gresini Ducati rider had been managing persistent shoulder trouble since the Indonesian round, following an injury sustained in a crash at Catalunya earlier in the season.

Posting on social media, Marquez explained that the surgical team carried out several procedures, including the removal of hardware and a bursa from his shoulder joint.

"Yesterday, I underwent surgery at Hospital Ruber Internacional in Madrid to remove the fixation plates from my right collarbone and left arm," Alex Marquez revealed.

"During the same operation, an arthroscopic bursectomy was performed on my right shoulder. In simple terms, they removed the plates and fixators from my collarbone and arm, alongside a small bursa in the shoulder that prevents friction between the tendons and the joint. This final procedure was carried out using a minimally invasive technique."
"Everything went smoothly, and I am already starting my recovery at home. I want to extend a special thanks to Dr. Samuel Antuña and the entire medical team for their work. This is another step towards returning to 100%. Thank you all for the support and love!"

Consequently, Gresini will be without either of their primary riders for this weekend's Qatar Grand Prix. Alongside Marquez, teammate Fermin Aldeguer remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from a broken arm sustained in an Indonesian GP crash.

Under these circumstances, Iker Lecuona will be the Italian outfit's sole representative at the Lusail International Circuit. The World Superbike regular has been deputising for the injured Aldeguer since the Australian Grand Prix.
