Alex Marquez: Tomorrow will be a long race in wet conditions

Alex Marquez secured second place in the Phillip Island sprint in Australia, with the Gresini Ducati rider describing the contest as "dramatic" after the chequered flag.

That assessment was prompted by a fierce scrap for the lead between his brother Marc and Jorge Martin, which featured several overtakes. In the end, Marc sealed victory while Martin crashed out, surrendering his championship lead ahead of Sunday's full-distance race, which is forecast to be heavily rain-affected.

"A pretty dramatic sprint! I had the best seat in the house to watch the battle between Marc and Jorge, right behind them. At the start, I tried to attack because I felt I had a little more pace, but Jorge countered immediately, which is typical of him. Afterwards, I lost time fighting with Pedro, which allowed them to pull away, and it was difficult to claw my way back after that. It was right on the limit, but I'm delighted with this second place. Tomorrow will be a very long race in wet conditions," said the younger Marquez brother.
