Alex Marquez secured second place in the sprint race at Phillip Island in Australia, with the Gresini Ducati rider describing the contest as "dramatic" after crossing the line.

That assessment stemmed from the fierce battle for victory between his brother Marc and Jorge Martin, which featured several overtakes. In the end, Marc claimed the win while Martin crashed out, surrendering his lead in the championship standings ahead of Sunday's full-length race, which is expected to take place in heavy rain.
"It was quite a dramatic sprint! I had the best seat in the house to watch the fight between Marc and Jorge, sitting right behind them. Early on, I tried to attack because I felt I had a bit more pace, but Jorge countered quickly, which is typical of him. Afterwards, I lost time battling with Pedro, allowing them to pull clear, and it was hard to bridge the gap after that. It was right on the limit, but I'm pleased with this second place. Tomorrow will be a very long race in wet conditions," said the younger Marquez brother.
