Bulgaria's top basketball player, Aleksandar Vezenkov, reflected on the past season, stating that success fuels motivation for future challenges. Vezenkov's club team, Olympiacos, who triumphed in the EuroLeague in 2026, is set to compete in the Super Cup tournament in Abu Dhabi on September 18th and 19th.

"I think the most important thing for 2026 is that after years of hard work, you finally reach the top and reap the rewards of your sacrifices," Vezenkov commented when asked if winning the EuroLeague trophy had lifted a huge burden from the club.
"This success provides motivation and a hunger to get back there again. It was an incredibly powerful moment because when you've tasted failure and missed your goals in the past, achieving them brings a sense of relief. At the same time, it ignites the fire to fight for even more," the Bulgarian international continued, as quoted by Eurohoops.net.
"Every stage of the EuroLeague is a battle. Even reaching the Final Four is extremely difficult, but winning it is a completely different challenge. Everything happens step by step, day by day. I know it sounds like a cliché, but it's the truth. When you compete for so many months, the absolute priority is to stay healthy when it matters most," Aleksandar Vezenkov added.

The upcoming season will present specific challenges for Olympiacos, as the team will have to play their home games at the "Sunel Arena" during the first half of the competitive year due to renovations at their club facility. Vezenkov admitted this would be an unprecedented experience for the team but expressed full confidence that the fans would massively support the team, regardless of the venue.

Looking to the future, Aleksandar Vezenkov also touched upon his coaching ambitions: "I love the game immensely, but right now I am a player. You never know how life will unfold. A coach's daily life is very complex, and you can never predict how the season will develop. It's a path I've always considered and one I respect. We'll see what the future brings."
"I try to do everything necessary to help my team win and maximize my effectiveness on the court. Individual awards bring internal satisfaction, but the priority is always the team victory. That's how you build a true legacy and stay at the top. Individual accolades are great, but they can't compare to winning a team trophy," Vezenkov explained, and regarding the potential retirement of his jersey by Olympiacos, he added: "I hope God grants me the opportunity to experience that honor one day."
