Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun encourages youth to read and explore Literature.

Executive Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun in a statement at the opening ceremony of the Ake Arts and Book Festival 2015 encouraged youth to read and explore literature.

He said: "Reading is essential to full participation in modern society as it adds quality to life, provides access to culture and cultural heritage, empowers and emancipates citizen as well as bring people together."

He added that the Ake town which is hosting the festival has a rich cultural and literary history, as Ake is one of the first town in Nigeria to practice any form of governance/western education.

Also present at the event include H.E Michel Arrion, the EU Abassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Deji Hasstrup from Chevron/NNPC, Baji Nyam of Marine Platforms.

Highlight of the event include a poetry/spoken word performance by Efe Paul Azino, a dance perfomance by Qudus Onikeku and a musical performance by Aduke.

The Ake Festival was created and established by Lola Shoneyin, award winning author of 'The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives' to help celebrate African arts, books and literature.
