Valencia's new manager, Javier Aguirre, has arrived in the city to commence his new role. He stated that "a lot of work lies ahead" to lift the team after a poor start to the season, but insisted that the squad possesses enough quality and talent to turn things around.
Aguirre replaces Carlos Corberán, who was sacked after "Los Che" began their La Liga campaign with four losses in their first five matches and five defeats in their opening seven games across all competitions.
"There's a lot of work to be done. There's still a long way to go in the league, but there are things that need to be addressed," declared Aguirre, who is taking charge of his seventh different Spanish club. This summer, he led Mexico at the World Cup, where "El Tri" were eliminated by England in the Round of 16.
"The institution, the history – that's what brought me here. There's a lot of individual talent. We will try to get the best out of this group. In some matches, they deserved more, and the last few games have been fantastic," the coach added. He has previously managed Osasuna, Atlético Madrid, Zaragoza, Espanyol, Leganés, and Mallorca.
Aguirre has signed a contract until the end of the season, with an option for an additional year. Valencia's next match is against newly promoted Santander on October 11th.
