It is really sad that black people are always described as food in literature.

If you read books written by white authors describing black characters then perhaps you would realise how white authors often compare black people to food. Her skin was "Caramel" or "butterscotch" or even light "Chocolate"

Say what????

In books, White people can have "indescribable" beauty, whereas black beauty can be reduced to an overused, fetishist cliche.

Reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett some few months back, I was shocked when the author made this over the top descriptions of black characters from their skin tones to their physical attributes.

It was distasteful and really annoying.

Of course, there's nothing inherently wrong with using a food comparison. But this video from Buzzfeed turns the table by showing how odd it is to use consumerist metaphors to describe people of another race or color.

See for yourself how odd it sounds to describe a white person as having a "mashed potato" skin.
