Jesus has reportedly reached a "full agreement" with the Portuguese Football Federation and is expected to be officially unveiled as the new head coach at a press conference on Friday.

Spaniard Roberto Martinez stepped down after Portugal's 1-0 loss to Spain, which saw them exit the tournament. Jesus is expected to sign a four-year contract, valid until the 2030 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Portugal, Spain, and Morocco.

Jesus has previously managed several Portuguese clubs, including Lisbon rivals Benfica and Sporting. His international coaching stints include Brazilian club Flamengo, Turkish side Fenerbahce, and Saudi Arabian clubs Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr, where he coached star Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo.

Following the defeat to Spain, Ronaldo stated that the 2026 World Cup was his last, but did not reveal whether he intends to continue his international career.
