The San Marino Grand Prix proved to be a chaotic affair, with Marco Bezzecchi's early crash paving the way for Marc Márquez to claim victory from second on the grid. Meanwhile, Jorge Martín could only manage a fifth-place finish.
The race at Misano began at a frantic pace. Bezzecchi initially held the lead but lost control of his bike unassisted before completing the first lap, ending up in the gravel between turns 12 and 13. This incident propelled Marc Márquez into the lead, closely followed by Martín and Pedro Acosta.
The race was marred by numerous retirements. Jack Miller crashed at turn eight, and shortly after, on the third lap, Diogo Moreira also suffered a fall. On lap five, Pecco Bagnaia crashed in the first sector, prompting a brief yellow flag. Later, with three laps remaining, Johann Zarco became another victim of turn eight.
At the front of the race, the battle for the lead was intense. On lap seven, Jorge Martín managed to overtake Marc Márquez and even built a one-second advantage. However, the seven-time world champion refused to give up, reclaiming the top spot at the start of lap 12.
From that point on, the pressure on Martín intensified. First, he was overtaken by Álex Márquez, who moved into second position two laps later. Pedro Acosta (KTM) also passed the Aprilia rider, relegating him to fourth. Martín's slide down the standings didn't stop there, as he was subsequently overtaken by Fermín Aldeguer.
In the final laps, Álex Márquez attempted to close the gap on his older brother, Marc, but couldn't bridge the difference. Marc Márquez crossed the finish line first, securing victory at the San Marino GP and taking the championship lead. Álex Márquez finished second, with Pedro Acosta completing the podium.
Although Márquez and Martín are tied on points (274), the former takes the championship lead due to his superior number of GP victories: five (all achieved in the last seven GPs), compared to his rival's single win at the French GP. Bezzecchi, the faster of the two Aprilia riders, trails the leading duo by 33 points.
