30 governorship candidates sign Peace Accord in Gombe state
Speaking during the event, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, the state Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) called on the candidates to abide by the rules towards ensuring peaceful election in the state.
I want us all to remember that there is no alternative to peace, election will come and go, but the state will remain, he said. Ibrahim said the commission is committed to creating level playing field to all political parties regardless of religion or tribe.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner of Police Mr Muhammad Mukaddas, called on all to desist from acts that may lead to breakdown of law and order during campaign and election.
He said similar accord was conducted during the 2015 general election and it played vital role in ensuring peaceful election process. It is our hope that all political parties, their members and leaders will ensure that the Accord 2019 is honored and allowed to work so that our state will retain its position one of the most peaceful in Nigeria, he said. Ibrahim Dankwambo urged all candidates to put the state in their minds and abide by the rules of the peace accord to have peaceful election in the state.
Dankwambo who was represented by his Chief of staff, Mr Ahmed Yayari, commended security agencies for maintaining peace in the state.
