The police confirmed that there was a lynching and the murder of four people from several nearby villages on Lake Bangweulu.

"32-year-old Lengwe Kafupi from the village of Nkufu was murdered because it was believed that he used witchcraft to force a crocodile to attack and kill one of the local women on Saturday," the Zambian daily quotes district commissioner, Stanley Mukos.

After killing the man, the mob burned his body and looted his shop. Later, they killed three more people whom they also suspected of practicing witchcraft. Finally, they buried them in graves, the commissioner reported.

The police managed to arrest one of the suspects in this crime.

"This is our Zambia today, will we ever free ourselves from outdated beliefs?" asked user, Tikki, in a social media post.

"How should we develop? A guy moves a grocery store to their neighborhood and these idiots accuse him of turning into a crocodile," another user, Nostradamus, put it more bluntly.
