Kim Jong Un rides new luxury cars

Despite warnings about growing economic challenges, North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, is not giving up luxuries.

His collection includes more and more expensive cars, including the latest acquisition - a Cadillac SUV.

The leader of North Korea appears to be expanding his luxury car collection. While inspecting the missile test on Tuesday, Kim was using a new Cadillac SUV, according to an analysis of state media by NK News.

This is not the first such purchase recently. The North Korean leader also appeared in new Maybach and Lexus limousines and SUVs since November last year. All this despite his own warnings to his nation to expect "increasing (economic) challenges and difficulties" this year.

In photos published in March and early April by state media, we see Kim Jong Un in a car resembling the latest model of the Cadillac Escalade. Another SUV also appeared, probably an Infiniti or Bentley model.

However, there are no more detailed photos that would allow us to precisely determine the models of these cars and whether they are expensive armoured versions. It is also unclear whether they are used mainly by Kim, his family members or top officials.

Interestingly, during the 2018 Singapore Summit, former US president, Donald Trump, took Kim on a short trip in his own armoured Cadillac limousine known as The Beast.

Despite UN sanctions that prohibit North Korea from trading luxury cars, Kim Jong Un does not give up importing expensive vehicles. In recent years, North Korea has also imported hundreds of industrial trucks and tractors, violating sanctions.

Kim Jong Un doesn't limit himself to just collecting cars. In recent years, he has also built many new giant mansions and luxurious train stations for himself and his family.

Kim Jong Un's car collection likely includes more models than those he used in public, experts say. Kim Jong Un is known to like to show off his expensive acquisitions, but he has only appeared once or twice with some models, such as a Rolls Royce Phantom and an armoured Lexus sedan.
