BREAKING: Dino Melaye wins PDP governorship primary in Kogi

Dino warded off stiff competition from other aspirants in the contest to emerge as the party's flag-bearer.

Melaye emerged victorious after a keenly-contested election held on Sunday, April 16, 2023.

The former lawmaker defeated other aspirants, including a former Kogi State deputy governor, Yomi Awoniyi, and his closest challenger, Kingsley Idoko.

Dino recorded a total of 317 votes to leave Idoko in second place with a total of 116 votes.

He will now square up with Alhaji Ahmed Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Barrister Adejo Okeme of the Labour Party among other candidates in the November 11, 2023, election.

Reacting to the development, his colleague in the 8th Senate, Senator Ben Bruce, sent an early congratulatory message to Dino on Sunday evening.

Taking to his Twitter page, Bruce said, "Congratulations, my good friend and brother, @_dinomelaye. Your triumphant victory in the Kogi State PDP governorship primaries is a testament to your unwavering dedication and commitment to the people."
