INEC issues Fayemi certificate of return

The certificate confirms Fayemi as the new Ekiti State governor after he emerged victorious at the state's recent election.

He was issued the certificate of return by INEC's National Commissioner in charge of Osun, Ekiti and Oyo states, Prince Solomon Soyebi, on Wednesday, July 18, 2018.

Fayemi defeated the PDP candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, aka Eleka, in the July 14 election as he won 197,459 votes to his opponent's 178,121 votes.

After he received the certificate in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, the governor-elect praised INEC for conducting a free and fair election, and also assured Ekiti residents that his tenure will be committed to providing real development.

He said, "For INEC, the work has just ended and for us, the work has just started. We have a responsibility not to disappoint our people. Ekiti people will see the benefit of good governance by the grace of God as from October 16."

On October 16, 2018, Fayemi will take over from incumbent, Ayodele Fayose, who defeated him in the 2014 gubernatorial election after his first stint as governor between 2010 and 2014.

The deputy governor-elect, Bisi Egbeyemi, also received his certificate of return.
