Amaechi announced his intention to run for the exalted office during a Thanksgiving service organised by the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday, April 9, 2022.

His declaration came after he had severally denied being interested in the race.

“I stand before you today to declare my intention and submit my application to serve as your next President,” he announced.

Pulse had earlier reported that the Minister will officially declare his interest in the 2023 presidential race on today.

Sources close to Amechi had revealed that his decision to throw his heart in the ring resulted from his consultations with several stakeholders across the country.

A former governorship candidate of the APC and long time political associate of the Minister, Dakuku Peterside, had said the thanksgiving was dedicated to the successful congresses and national convention of the party.

He added that it was an opportunity to honour Amaechi whom he described as an excellent performer.

Peterside noted that the Minister possesses the required qualifications to govern Nigeria effectively, saying he would bring his experiences to bear to transform the country.

“For years, APC in Rivers State did not have substantive officers to run her affairs. But, the party has returned to the path of stability, unity and by inference, the path of victory.

“The second reason is the election of our members to various offices at the zonal and national levels.

“APC, more than ever, is ready to take over the government house,” he had said in a press statement.
