As the year starts to wind down, many people begin to feel mentally and physically fatigued because of the pressure to meet deadlines, quotas and maintain maximum performance at work.
Other symptoms of being burnt out include: losing interest in work, feeling tired all the time, exhibiting negative emotions like lashing out, and withdrawing from family and friends. This feeling actually affects productivity and could have dire effects on your personal life and health.
Here’s what to do when you feel burnt out:
Identify what the problem is
You need to get to the root of the problem and figure out what exactly is causing this stress. Once this is pinpointed, you can now focus on dealing with the issue.
Relax
Just chill. Read a book, listen to music, go on a walk, have dinner with friends or just lie down and do nothing.
Disconnect
You really need to balance work and rest. Rest is important for the mind and the body. Thanks to technology we’re technically available 24 hours a day; despite this it’s important to disconnect daily and make time for yourself.
Sleep
Get at least six hours of sleep. Sleeping helps rejuvenate the mind.
Go on leave
What are you saving all those vacation days for? Go on holiday.
Take a break
While you’re at work, you can learn to relax with breathing exercises, taking a walk or even meditating for a couple of minutes. Don’t eat lunch at your desk.
Practice positive thinking
Visualise and think positive thoughts about each day. You can start your day with a mantra of positivity.
Stay healthy
Eat a healthy balanced diet. Exercise.
