Pregnant woman found dead on the road in Bayelsa

The lifeless body of a pregnant woman was found along an expressway in Bayelsa State. There is however confusion over the cause of her death.

A pregnant woman has found dead along the Issace Boro Expressway in Yenagow, Bayelsa State.

The body of the deceased, who has been identified as Victoria John, was found on Thursday, February 12.

The cause of the woman’s death has however not been ascertained.

The Bayelsa State Police and the state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps have different versions of what caused the death of the pregnant woman.

The spokesperson of the Bayelsa State Command, Mr. Asinim Butswat revealed that the corpse of Victoria John was discovered at about 8.30 am on Thursday.

Butswat said the cause of death could not be ascertained, but the police were suspecting a case of hit-and-run and revealed that some visible marks were found on her head and back,

“The deceased was identified as Victoria John and she was 24 years old. The cause of death could not be ascertained. However, there were visible marks on her head and back. We are suspecting a case of hit-and-run,” Mr. Asinim Butswat said.

The Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Vincent Jack however revealed that information available to his command was that the pregnant woman was robbed.

“The woman was robbed in the early hours of Thursday and in the process, she died. There were no signs of bruises, according to reports from our officers on the field,” Mr. Vincent Jack said.

The version of a man who claimed to be an eyewitness correlates with that of the state commander of the FRSC, Mr. Vincent Jack.

The eyewitness revealed that the 24-year-old woman died after collapsing from dizziness. He said that she hit her head on the pavement of the road which further led to her death.

“The woman collapsed on her way to the Opolo area and hit her head on the pavement of the expressway. To me, her pregnancy was up to seven months old. If she had got quick medical attention, she would have probably survived. The incident occurred around 7am on Thursday,” the man told .

The corpse has been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa for autopsy.
