Day-old baby discovered inside carton in Ilorin

While many women are praying for babies, others are abandoning theirs.

Abandoned baby

Another case of child abandonment has been brought to light as a day-old baby was discovered  and rescued by the police inside a carton and placed at a bus stop along Adelodun road in the Government Residential Area (GRA), Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

According to eyewitnesses, the innocent baby must have been dumped by its mother shortly after being born as the placenta was still on it.

The baby was reportedly spotted by some residents who consequently called the State Police Command and a patrol team from the A-Division was dispatched to the scene, evacuated the baby and was taken to the Civil Service Clinic for medical attention.

A police source said:

“The baby was abandoned this morning at that spot. A good Samaritan called the distress number of the Nigerian Police, Kwara Command and a team from A-Division was sent to the place.

When our officers got there, the fresh baby was found neatly packed inside the carton. And we took the newly born baby straight to the office and then to the Civil Service Clinic in Ilorin here where he was given medical attention.”
