Colleagues say police officer who killed twins was a disaster waiting

The drunk police officer who killed twin brothers, their friend and himself, was a waiting disaster, according to his colleagues.

The late Sergeant Stephen James

A few days ago, a drunk police sergeant, identified as Stephen James, truncated the joys of two families when he murdered a set of twin brothers, Taiwo and Kehinde Oyesunle, their friend known as Jeje, and later turned his gun on himself at a hotel in Ketu area of Lagos State.

However, according to colleagues of the late killer mobile police officer at the MOPOL 20 Police Barracks in Ikeja, he was a disaster waiting to happen as he exhibited tendencies of mental imbalance.

A colleague who spoke to Pulse but did not want his name mentioned, James was volatile and very temperamental

"Sergeant Stephen James was a disaster waiting to happen. I lived in the same block with him and everyone knew he was very volatile especially when he was drunk. He would come out in the night and release several round of ammunitions into the air. No one could restrain him at such times as he dared anyone to come close.

It was apparent he had some mental disorder and we kept wondering why the police could not 'demob' him and take him to a psychiatric hospital."

Another colleague who identified himself only as Ahmed, said:

"I knew Sergeant James close hand and I am sure he was not completely well. We suspected he must have killed some innocent souls before he was posted to Lagos and the blood of those people must have been on his head.

He behaved abnormally and even his family and colleagues were so afraid of him. Whenever he was drunk, he would vow to kill, saying it was not a new thing to him. When I heard he killed some people and killed himself, I knew it was just waiting to happen."
