Lala Akindoju confirms new role in Walt Disney film

The actress stars in Disney's forthcoming original film 'Rise' based on Giannis Antetokounmpo and his family.

Nigerian star actress, Kemi Lala Akindoju has confirmed her latest international feature in Walt Disney's 'Rise'.

The actress who stars in the film alongside veteran actress Joke Silva, recently confirmed via Instagram that she also doubled as the film's Nigerian casting director.

"RISE @disneyplus Original movie based on the real life experiences of Milwaukee Bucks Star, Giannis Antetokounmpo and his family will Debut in 2022. Family. Dedication. Devotion. So excited and honoured to have worked on this production in two capacities: Nigeria Casting & Acting," Akindoju wrote.

The actress also paid a tribute to deceased music star Sound Sultan for introducing her to young Nigerian basketball players. "To the late Sound Sultan who connected us with some amazing young basketball players when we started the search- thank you bro," she added.

'Rise' will star real life brothers Uche and Ral Agada as the young versions of Giannis and Thanasis while other cast members include Jaden Osimuwa, Elijah Shomanke, Dayo Okeniyi, Yetide Badaki, Vera Manish Dayal, Taylor Nichols, Maximiliano Hernandez, Eddie Cahill, Pilar Holland, McColm Kona Cephas Jr.

Disney studio confirmed on Thursday that the film would debut on its streamer Disney plus on a yet to be confirmed date in 2022.
