‘Black Panther’ is the first superhero film to get Oscar nomination for ‘Best Picture’

At the 2018 edition of The Oscars, James Mangold’s “Logan” became the first superhero movie to receive recognition in the writing categories.

In the same vein, ‘Black Panther’ joins “Avatar” and “Titanic” as the third-highest grossing best picture nominee ever with $700 million in domestic box office receipts and a worldwide accumulated of $1.3 billion.
The Marvel’s superhero film was also nominated for six other categories namely best costume design, best original score, best original song, best production design, best sound editing, and best sound mixing.
The Oscars nominees list was announced on Tuesday, January 22, 2018, by Kumail Nanjiani and Tracee Ellis Ross.
