One Direction has decided to go their separate ways for good despite denying previous rumors that their extended hiatus was a band break up, according to sources.

A source tells Us Weekly that the popular boy band chose not to renew their recording contract after losing member Zayn Malik in March and wrapping up their first ever foursome tour in October last year.

"The 1D thing just ran its course. They’ll remain friends, but they are exhausted and want solo careers," the insider told the site.

Last Spring, the pop group had been considering a reality show deal to find Malik's replacement last Spring, but opted to continue on as a smaller group in the end.

"They fully deserve to have at least a year to work on their own projects," a source said of their then-temporary break. "There is absolutely no bad blood between them and they are all 100 per cent behind the decision."
