The NUC official made the remark on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, while delivering an address at a one-day workshop on Proposed Higher Education Reform and Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE) Impact in Abuja.

According to Independent, the NUC official said the universities are failing in their mandate.

In a bid to support his remark about Nigerian universities, Rasheed cited late release of transcripts, student results and other academic documents necessary for admission seekers to further their education either in Nigeria or abroad as some of the lapses prevalent in the university system.

Rasheed said the NUC is facing criticisms from stakeholders because some Nigerian university graduates lack necessary skills to enable them to fit properly into the society.

The NUC official also said that the lapses in the Nigerian university are the reasons he designed some reform programmes to address the issue.
