Staff at the supermarket Walmart in California assumed the silver Volkswagen vehicle had just been forgotten by its owner.

When Walmart employees looked closely through the dark tinted Jetta's windows, they discovered the body of a 22-year-old woman, Lauren Jessie Moss.

Lauren has been reported missing since November 13 last year, but it wasn’t until January that her body was found.

Police say it had been difficult for passers-by to see into the vehicle because of the tinted glass and a sunshade over the windscreen.

When investigators checked the supermarket’s security camera footage, which only goes back to the end of December, the car was already parked in the carpark, suggesting it had been there for a few months.

Ms Moss’ sister told The Sun that Lauren had left a suicide note behind for family and a drug needle was found in the vehicle.

Police have performed an autopsy, but a cause of death is yet to be confirmed. Metro UK added.
