“We Need A Strong AMI – African Music Industry”... HHP Hints On His New Initiative And Vents On Continental Bias

This may sound shocking but certainly not too much of a worry to some Africans; because as it stands, African music is on top and is going international. But question: Which African countries chair this process? While countries like Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa seem to be ripping off benefits from this huge movement, other African countries look lost or are rather still struggling to sound like these few in order to gain recognition.

Beside this wahala, another issue just sprang up and its becoming an item for concern to some big African stars; one of them being South African Hip Hop act/BET Awards nominee, HipHop Pantsula aka HHP who is now taking a bold step to make a change. Its not like the cry for unity in African music hasn't been tapped but this time something is been done about it.

“In Africa, we have Nigerian, Kenyan, Angolan, Ethiopian, South Africa music industries. It needs to change. When Wizkid releases, we need to have a buzz in Kuruman South Africa. When Camp Mulla releases, Sorowe Botswana must be in a frenzy”...HHP speaks.

Its obvious the rapper believes Africa needs a general African Music Industry where peeps won't be boxed up within their specific countries and are nonchalant about the music business and structure of their sister nations but just theirs.

“ Unity is Inevitable..#DarajaWalk! We don't even respect artists from other countries enough to play their music ONLY. I hear more about Jay-Z's new release than Wande Coal's new single release...Africa needs to be ALL COOL.”

Considering the fact that, Africa is made up of 52 states, if not more and more than 2,000.000 different tribes and cultures, would a possible unity work out just fine? Are African artists responsible for this egocentric pattern of music distribution within the continent or are the Djs not pumping enough creativity in the business? What else is going wrong? Why won't a Nigerian crowd immediately skip to the sound of Mafikizolo's “Khona” in Lagos or Kenyans scream on a Sarkodie hit like it was Wyre's?

All these put together surely made the prolific HHP to wonder if African music is truly as united as it looks on paper?

HHP is currently on a movement from South Africa to Kenya to spread his belief and he is more than ready to take it to the ends of the continent. It's important that music becomes that bridge between nations, cultural disparities, racial differences and a huge microphone to amplify the views and tunes of every African musician and music lover.
