Telcom giant announces LTE rollout plans in Nigeria, Ghana

With the LTE rollout plans in progresss, MTN is looking to regain its position as the foremost provider of telecommunication services in Africa

Media reports reveal that MTN will be rolling out LTE services in Nigeria by July. The service will be deployed in selected cities via MTN's 800 MHz which it secured from Visafone after acquiring the company.

Innovation Village says MTN wants to have 1,500 LTE sites transmitted with fibre optics before the end of 2016. Ferdi Moolman, MTN CEO, according to the report, disclosed that Visafone subscribers will be served on the MTN network so it can clean up Visafone's frequency and launch the LTE services.

MTN is also making moves in Ghana with respect to LTE rollout. The company is partnering with Ericsson to install multi-standard radio solution which will support GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA and LTE>

With the LTE rollout plans in progresss, MTN is looking to regain its position as the foremost provider of telecommunication services in Africa, despite its $3.9 billion NCC fine still being dealt with.
