Former NSA reveals how he helped Buhari plan 1983 coup

The former NSA has denied news making the rounds that he was the officer that maltreated Buhari when he was ousted in 1985. Is he is paying for his 1985 sin?

News about the embattled former National Security Adviser,Col. Sambo Dasuki(rtd), during Goodluck Jonathan's administration seems to be flooding in every second.

In an exclusive interview with an Abuja based blogger, Yushua Shauib, the former spy master revealed how he helped the then Major General Buhari, plan the 1983 Coup that ousted President Shehu Shagari.

According to an excerpt of the interview obtained from TheVanguard, Dasuki said “himself and two young military officers, who are still alive, travelled to Jos to brief Major General Buhari, who was then the GOC of 3rd Armoured Division, on the furtherance of the planning of the 1983 coup, which made Buhari the major beneficiary. “

Adding that “Buhari expressed his bitterness about insinuations on his stewardship in one of the public institutions, but I assured the then GOC not to worry about such reckless and mischievous insinuations.”

He also said that Buhari knows who to blame for the coup that removed him from office in 1985.

The former NSA also denied news making the rounds that he was the officer that maltreated Buhari when he was ousted, saying “I always respect and dignify my seniors and those in positions of authority whether in service or after. Though a young officer, I was reluctant to be among those that arrested him. And I was not."

Dasuki concluded by saying “I only met him afterward at Bonny Camp with Lawal Rafindadi. There is no way I could have maltreated him as being alleged in some quarters. I am glad most of the actors are still alive.”
