Natural is all the rage now and for good reason. It's convenient, cost-effective and pretty low maintenance - once you get the hang of it.

Nollywood actress, Dakore Akande famously declared that her hair never grew as much till when she had her dreads. Several naturalistas have also testified to the goodness of going natural to hair length. These are just some of the reasons we've come to embrace the trend that going natural is.

So, are you considering going natural? Or tired of having the same ol' chin length hair you've had since your teens? Here are 5 great reasons to embrace your natural hair.

  1. Convenient: With natural hair, you don't have to worry so much about getting your hair wet or setting your hair to get the perfect bounce. Its simply about great conditioning, moisture and you're well on your way to sporting great hair.

  2. Boho chic: Ever admired a bohemian type weave? Well with natural hair you don't need to spend money on a weave to get the look because with the right maintenance, you can achieve the bohemian look with your natural hair. Indeed, there's something decidedly chic about natural hair and with the many tutorials now available on styling, you're just one step away from boho chic.

  3. Healthy: It's not for nothing that relaxers are referred to in some quarters as 'hair crack'. Don't get us wrong, there are several great relaxers that promote healthy hair but the truth is natural hair, when properly maintained can attain great lengths plus its much healthier for the hair follicles and scalp when the hair is in its natural state.

  4. Cost effective: Once you get your hair products, you can always treat your hair at home saving you tons of time, not to mention money spent getting weekly wash-ups, periodic touch-ups and don't get us started on money spent on weaves.

  5. Versatile: As we've stated earlier, natural hair isn't as sensitive to water making it easier to manage. Plus as we all know, moisture is the bane of every black woman's existence, this makes it a great relief to not worry about water, because unlike relaxed hair, natural hair thrives on moisture. Plus natural hair can easily be styled in so many different ways. Need we say more?
